I don't see any problem with driving defensively - it's racing not time trials
If the driver behind has sufficient skill, he will get past a driver who maybe keeps to the inside line and knows how to shut the door
Obviously constant weaving, brake testing, deliberately slicing into someone if they are already halfway past are all very wrong and should be punished
At the end of the day, say you personally were competing in a damp race where you chose wet tyres and everyone else chose slicks - you quickly get up the field in the first few laps and lead the race
Then towards the end your tyres start to break up a little and the others close as the track dries out
2 laps to go, you're in the lead, do you let them by just becasue they are lapping faster?
No!!!
"I'm not fast enough to win, but I can have the satisfaction of ruining your days racing" you said
Anyone who crosses the line first, is fast enough to win
