For the first 20 or so years of karting in this country, baulking (as defensive driving was then known) virtually didn't exist. Back in the 80's, I protested another drivers tactics in trying to stop me passing (the only protest I have ever lodged in over 200 events since my first race meeting in 1972), and he was disqualified. It was the sort of thing that is routine and wouldn't raise an eyebrow these days. Baulking has only really been "acceptable" since the mid 90's - karting survived perfectly well without such tactics up till then. Taken to its extreme, defensive driving stops overtaking from occuring. Is this how you want our sport to be? I certainly don't. It seems to me that our sport is filled with people who want to be able to win, without having to be the fastest to do it.
