Hi Paul,
firstly welcome to this great sport & it is a great sport, don't let this first experience put you or your son's off, what a lot of karter & dads forget is that they had to start some where and that they propbably had a few spins and got in the way of the "faster drivers" when they started!.
I'm not sure if I'm right but I thought you could compete in cadets up to and including the year of your 13th birthay so you may of been give some duff info there?
It sounds like your lads need some time in the seat to build up the skill levels, if you can get down to rye in the week it should be a bit quieter , or try Whilton mill the track is a bit bigger and they often run sessions.
to answer you last question "Should I get out of the sport entirely, or should I ignore the angry dads and just carry on?" ignore the angry dad's as they should know better, get some track time in with you lads, ask lots of questions and learn a bit about setup as you go along but most of all enjoy it!!!
