Many of the FACTS are correct here but the basic CONCEPT of Left Hand Drive is BONKERS in principle!
Why?
I'll explain!
Most of us are biased being either left handed or right handed. That 'chosen' hand is called the dominant hand. 7% to 10% of adults are left-handed.
The dominant hand is the one most of us use for 'accurate' work and we tend you use the non-dominant hand as a 'steadying device'.
Secondly, the dominant hand is more directly linked with 'hand-eye' skills than the non-dominant; think of it as a better link between the connecting wiring for the eyes and the dominant hand than the non-dominant!
The act of STEERING a race/road car requires VASTLY more accuracy than does changing gear! None of us, I trust, LOOKS at the gearlever when we change gear....... or DO you take your eyes OFF the road/track when you change gear.....? Be honest, all of us could change gear WITH OUR EYES SHUT, now tell me how happy you'd be to STEER with your eyes shut! Put simply, the task of moving a gear lever is MUCH simpler than the ect of STEERING a car!
So.... with our species substantial bias towards Right Handedness and the simplicity of gear changing versus steering, it is utterly BONKERS for the MAJORITY of us to use our LEFT hand for the complex task of steering and our RIGHT hand for the simple stuff of changing gear!
But you wouldn't expect Johnny Foreigner to understand that.... would you!
