Welll...... at 13 (?) you are going to NEED someone to take you to races unless you just do 'arrive and drive'. Even then, you need to GET to the track.
You might also like to tell dad that it is the place where LOADS of us Dads get a chance to BOND with their teenage sons.... something that doesn't hepen anywhere NEAR enough in the 'wide world'. Get him to come and WATCH how we work with our sons/daughters, he'll be impressed! Yes there ARE arguments but, usually, you are working towards the SAME goal and that BONDS you!
Tell dad that some of the BEST moments us Dads have HAD was sharing racing with ouir kids. It CAN make a team of you.....
Finally, tell Dad that, if he wants you to SURVIVE your move to driving road cars at 17... there is simply NO better driver training ON THE PLANET..... you'll learn MANY of the techniques which keep you ALLVE on the road!
Finally on a silly but annoying point....
Karting is a SERIOUS sport. The word 'Go Kart' implies a 'toy'. Most of us simply call it a 'Kart' and 'Karting'.
The nearest explanation I can make is to ask you to think about asking Rossi how his 'MoPed' handles. You wouldn't call HIS bike a Moped..... would you?
