Those who have advised you this simply have no concept about what grease DOES!
Bearing grease does one job (supportsand lubricates bearings), vaseline does another (I'm sure I don't need to advise you on THAT job!).
You can judge the quality of the advice about vasline by thinking about swapping the jobs of BOTH 'lubricants'. Those who would use Vaseline as a bearing lubricant would PROBABLY be happy to use bearing grease to replace Vaseline for that other ALL IMPORTANT task.......
Think it THROUGH.... would grase manufacturers spend YEARS developing subtle greases if they ONLY had top pop to the chemists for a jar of vaseline whihc is 'just as good'.....
I mean, let's have some REALITY here!
On the other hand..... using KY-Jelly as an axle grease is a GREAT idea ........ NOT!
