Once again..... Paul....
Can you tell us the PRECISE difference in effect between the ROTATIONAL MASS of a Magnesium pair or rear wheels compared to Alloy ones...?
For precision, try to think about the REALITY!
1) The wheel is condensed SO close to the centre of the rotation (it has small diameter), any ACTUAL improvment would be STUNNINGLY small
2) The TYRE is at the EXTREMES of the rotational mass. Most of the TYRE'S weight is in the TREAD! You claim that 'rotational mass is important'. Oh REALLY......! That would appear to imply you are STUPID enough to claim that using a WORN tyre would be even BETTER than a new one BECAUSE IT HAS EVEN BETTER REDUCED ROTATIONAL MASS THAN THE WHEEL? You know..... I suspect you MIGHT just claim that!
3) If you MUST do the maths so that you can 'PROVE it'..... you MUST take into account the improvement in rotational mass needs to be compared to the ENTIRE rotatational mass of the REST of the rotating stuff which does NOT change when you change the wheels:-
1) two Hubs 2) Two/three bearings 3) 1 axle 4) 1 brake disk carrier 5) 1 HEAVY STEEL/IRON DISK wher5e the mass is even FURTHER outside the rotational centre than the rims 6) 1 CHAIN 7) sprocket carrier 8) 1 DRIVEN Sprocket 9) 1 CLUTCH 10) the WHOLE of the crank, con, piston PLUS 1 DRIVE sprocket 11) all the of mass of the FRONT wheels ... err 12) (damn, forgot these) TWO MASSIVE TYRES!
Are you NOW getting the picture why the utterly PATHETIC saving in rotational mass, already COMPROMISED by needing to make it THICKER than an Ally wheel, makes a difference SO small that you could NOT see that 'mass improvement' on ANY stopwatch on the PLANET!
Don't even START me on asking you to explain the REAL differnce between the effect of rotating mass and the INERTIA of the KART!!!! To do the REAL effects of calculating the improvement, you'd have to include PART of the INERTIA of the WHOLE kart in the calcutaions of Rotational Mass Effects (dependng [I think] on the gearing!)because you CANNOT divorce that effect ON THE TRACK!...
This is just plain DAFT! You are peddling HYPE as though it was FACT!
