Cosgrove, I think if you go to most engine builders withy a �10k budget you will be made welcome and get good kit. There may be someone around with a �100k budget for engines but not many. I know that �50k plus has been spent doing Stars/S1 but that tends to cover team fees, mechanics, karts, fuel etc rather than just on engines. Still out of reach for most but that is life. Last year when there were all the problems with the Tryton there were a number of posts about switching to Honda. Some of the people on this forum with longer memories pointed out that Honda was almost destroyed as a class because of the cheque book influence. As you say, a top driver with top kit will be formidable but if you look at the results in detail it is often not the fastest driver (expensive engine?) that wins but rather the one who puts in consistent lap times lap after lap come rain or shine.
