If you can get round Whilton within a few seconds of the fastest lap time for your class, and can lap consistently at this pace without going off, you'll pass the test fine.
I was doing a decent pace before my test (about 2s off the lap record), but decided to go with the Protrain ARKS course/test in the hope I'd gain something from it.
I wasn't disappointed; the guy training me taught me all the lines, braking points and turn-in points for the circuit. He also taught me general driving techniques applicable to any circuit
I improved my times by a decent margin during the day (about 0.5s). I've also continued to improve since then by thinking back to the advice I was given on the day. I think I'd have improved at a slower rate without the training.
For me it was worth the extra 150.
