In my view the meeting was absolutely worthwhile, the MSA get a lot of bad press but they are doing things in the background. They have an existing project to ensure that future kart bodywork is crash tested and our scenario has effectively proposed an additional test to their programme. Some options regarding nose design were discussed and Martin Hines' experience regarding what had been tried in the past was invaluable.
It was also clear that the MSA are working closely with Andrew Mellor of the FIA Institute and his interest in the accident and the resultant damage to Tom's safety equipment will all help in their research to help make things safer in the future for our racing children.
We've only provided a small amount of information on the subject of safety but the MSA are open to communication and a call to John Ryan is worth a mountain of debate on these forums, it just needs to be supported with tangible evidence before they can act.
As John's reply said, how productive it will be remains to be seen, the MSA don't make knee-jerk decisions but at least we've raised the awareness enough for them to instruct their scrutineers to be more vigilant over the condition of nose fairings in the short term to reduce the risk of the launch effect by nose contact.
