Check his weight with his race gear on - race suit, boots, gloves, rib protector, helmet and neck brace (if he wears one). If he is around 46kg then you will be running close to the weight limit in cadet classes and almost certainly overwight when it is wet but that is not so critical. You can reduce the overall weight by using a lighter seat, floor tray and other parts but then your costs start to go up - also maybe the new lighter helmet, race suit and so on. Maybe the weight limits will also go up and help. As well as any issue of actually fitting in the kart comfortably then weight will be the main factor that could slow you down. Get him as much track time as you can while he can still race cadets as moving up at 11 may be your only option if you want to be competitive.
