The biggest peice of advice to give you is to go to your local track(s) and check out the grid sizes for each of the class's available to you, should TKM be non-existant, then dont go for it, go with the grid which is larger - if TKM is available to you then its the cheepest way into the sport - dont listen to ppl who say its a die'ing class, in each part of the country each class is more popular than others it depends on where you live to be honest! (I guess that last comment was from ROTAX person - which is a stupidly expensive class)
