I have an Alfano Pro (the old style with the screw plugs) and am trying to sort out a cylinder head temperature sensor for it. I was trying to avoid spending �70 on a genuine Alfano one, so after reading this thread here

ordered a thermocouple like this one

However I can't get it to work. I have the Alfano set to the correct setting for the air-cooled sensor, but whenever I connect it up it just says 'Hi', which I think means the temperature is more than 300 deg (which it's not).

Anyone have experience of getting a generic thermocouple working with the alfano? Is the type of connector important? At the moment I'm just touching the connections together (dont want to solder it up if I've bought the wrong thing).
