We have spoken to John Ryan of the MSA today to inform him of the incident at Rissington and to get an update on the latest position on the ZIP Storm Front Fairing. If anyone has video or any other photographic evidence from the Rissi incident, please advise John on 01753 765015.
The current position on the front fairing is that it has been approved for racing in 2010 by the MSA Technical Committee following consultation with representatives from the FIA Institute. That said, they recognise that there are other options available but the MSA cannot recommend those directly without proper crash testing which is what is planned for the next homologation of Cadet bodywork (including a head-on crash test).
So, in the short-term it is up to the parent to act and change to an alternative nose if it is believed to reduce the risk to their child but it seems a ban on the existing nose is not currently on their agenda.
Be aware that we are not receiving (nor expect) any commission from any of the conversion kits sold by Dartford Karting - this is simply a potential safety option we used following my son's accident this year.
Act now and make the change, talk to Martin or Hayley at Dartford Karting.
Regards
