It�s good to see some clarification detailed in �Motorsports Now � Rule Changes� albeit within the regs for car racing � Track Regulations;

1. Drivers must use the track at all times.

2. The white lines defining the track are considered to be part of the track, but the kerbs are not.

3. A driver will be judged to have left the track if no part of the �car� remains in contact with the track.

It appears that it is quite permissible to use not only the kerbs but also the grass behind them, to a distance of say 1399mm outside the white line which defines the track boundary.
