Sorry to take a while responding but we were on our way to clay on Friday for our first junior race.

James did have a flip in 2006 at Shenington - it was either the October or November meeting. He came round turn 9 (the hairpin where the bank is) and two karts had spun in front of him. Result was a double roll, damaged kart and written-off helmet.

I did not see the accident as I was not at the track but the team we were with said that most drivers flipped at some point in their career and I just accepted it as part of racing. James was a bit shaken but borrowed a helmet and was out a couple of sessions later.

Since then james has been in the ambulance a few times but those have been the result of being fired off - some which looked quite deliberate but thankfully only resulting in the odd bruise.

I have seen some horrific looking accidents in most classes but no serious injuries - a broken bone is bad but that is about the worst I have seen. The worst to see was young Alex gill when he did a full forward flip at Shenington but that was I believe after hitting a kerb rather than a spun kart. Happily he also was shaken but back racing the following week.

This year does seem to have been the worst for broken bone incidents in cadets and whilst the zipnose cone seems to feature in most but it is also the most common nose cone on the grid.

If the zip nose cone was banned tomorrow it would not affect us in any way but I do wonder what would happen if the following week there were three cadets karts flipped when all were using flat fronted nose cones - would there be a demand to stop all cadet racing?

It does seem a bit ironic that there are calls to ban the zip nose cone based on opinions rather than `hard evidence' albeit genuine concerns but at the same time there are threads complaining about the ban on chassis protectors and the new CMR helmets when the MSA say they have real evidence that there are safety issues.

With the CMR helmets I believe the MSA have opted for a simpliostic approach but saying that it will apply to basmbinos from 01.01.10 and cadets from 01.01.11 as it is very easy in scrutineering to connect a cadet kart to a CMR helmet. Probably the cotrrect route would be to measure heads but I can easily imaging the fuss that would cause in scrutineering.
