The phasing out of the Blue label helmets and the introduction of the CMr are two seperate issues but unfortunately whenever there is a change is regulations some people will be caught in between. The blue label helmets have come to the end of their theoretical shelf life just as the snell 2005 will presumably cease to be legal at some point (is it December 2015?) The introduction of the CMR helmets has been delayed to allow for competition on prices hence cadets will have to have them from 01.01.11 and all under 15s from 01.01.13. I am sure that there will be a number of drivers who have their 15th birthday throughout the year 2013 and have perfectly safe snell 2005 helmets but will still have to either buy a CMR or take a few months off racing. Where I think the MSA have been wrong is that they do not seem to have made much effort to explian why the CMR helmets are a safety benefit. From talks i have had with john Ryan there does seem to be evidence but maybe it is just their policy not to have to justify their decisions.
