Broadly speaking, there are two different types of school kart teams involved in NatSKA. Originally, all schools involved were run by a member of school staff (usually from the craft department), and the karts were usually designed and built in school by the staff & pupils. The school minibus and a trailer would transport the whole team to the meetings, where up to 4 pupils would share each kart. At the other extreme, the more recent trend is for school teams to be a collection of parent/child owner/drivers going to the events simply under the name of the school, with no other school involvement. My personal view (based on a 34 year involvement with NatSKA), is that your sons driving would be best served by doing more msa events, but that his personal developement would be best served being part of a NatSKA school team organised along the traditional lines (for which you are fortunate to be close to the Barclay School who are still organised this way). I frankly don't see the point of being an owner driver within the school team, though, when you clearly can afford to do msa racing - this would be the worst of both worlds.
