You should have plenty of time to get a letter sorted before the season starts.
Also do a full check of the dates against the school calendar as in TKm we only have 4 Fridays during school time due to half term and other school holidays.
I had to get a letter for my son and he is in 6th form (full time education though). The head of year was reluctant to give permission , but luckily we had always asked permission in previous years so the Head Master did the letter for us.
We always send in press cuttings and S1 newsletters etc to highlight the National Status of the Championship and to show its sporting status etc. You could send in the articles showing Jensen Button giving the prizes this year and also emphasis the TV coverage etc.
The main selling point is to emphasis its a National Sporting Championship and your child will be representing the school. We also mention the team work and discipline aspects of the weekends racing , and how the has helped him to work as part of a team and develop team spirit, responsibility and improved his attitude and maturity. It has also helped him to deal with the highs and lows and the dedication and hard work needed to succeed in what he does. We also mention that any missed work will be followed up and completed as soon as possible after the race meeting. All of this helps to build a case for the school to consider the benefits and merits of giving a few days off a year.
Good luck.
I think a few may miss Friday practice this year with the permission needed in advance. I think many usually pull a sicky or the old faithful " Dentist Appointment" lol
