However, there is another option which I partially explored, before, for a friend. Near us, there are companies who re-condition starter motors, alternators and dynamos. There are probably similar companies near you. I visited them to ask about this problem and they were suggesting various starters that would both have enough power, and would have the correct rotation.
I would guess that, even second hand, you will be looking at �50 to �100 however you do it. That would make the alternative of buying the spares to make it a kick-start possible. You'd still be retaining the 'blocked' components to put it back to 'race' spec.
