Because the Caterham is either better built or MUCH better value (depending on the model/make) than ANY of those..... particularly the Atom!
However, once again, you just don't GET it.... do you?
If I WANTED the closest replica of CHAPMAN'S version of the LOTUS Seven.... then I'd BUY a Lotus 7. However, as my last one (SII Cosworth 1968) was THE perfect Seven (I rebuilt every last nut and bolt of it!) and it was STOLEN from me and there's little of no chance of me finding ANOTHER that has not been 'modified' (b*st*rdised) with Caterham bits... then that option isn't open to me. Failing that, I'd buy the NEXT nearest one in 'ethos' which is the WESTFIELD and NOT the Caterham!
Having owned EVERY model of Lotus 7 (1 x SI, 2 SII, 3 SIIs and a singleton SIV), I can tell you that the Caterham is CURRENTLY far too well built and finished to BE a replica. Almost ALL of the chassis rails have been replaced by Caterham.
Yes.... the Caterham IS the continuation of the 7 series..... it's just NOT a Lotus which was ALWAYS more crude! And..... Caterhams are a DAMNED sight heavier!
The current Caterham is a about as close to the original LOTUS Seven as the current (BMW) Mini is to the ORIGINAL Mini!
