It is CORRECT to state there is currently no PROOF that neck braces improve the outcome of neck injuries sustained whilst racing karts - This is because no testing has been conducted.
It is INCORRECT to state that there is no EVIDENCE that neck braces improve the outcome of neck injuries sustained whilst racing karts. There is lots of evidence (and remarkably little evidence to the contrary), but it is not sufficiently documented, correlated or controlled and thus remains unproven. It is medically CORRECT to state that hyperflexion / hyperextension of the neck is the cause of the most typical neck injuries sustained in incidents where a rapid decelerative force of the body or antagonistic accelerative force of the head is experienced
It is CORRECT to state that hyperflexion / hyperextension is the neck injury typically experienced in vehicular accidents of any kind where head injuries themselves are not the issue (i.e. due to the restraint of the body from impact by a device such as a seat belt in an RTA, or due to a helmet being worn, which paradoxically increased the incidence of neck injuries due to the increased mass of the body in motion).
It is CORRECT to state that correctly anatomically designed neck braces (NOT foam rolls)ARE PROVEN to reduce the incidence of hyperflexion / hyperextension in rapid deceleration events...
Draw your own conclusions from the EVIDENCE you can find on the net and elsewhere, and from your experience of the type of accident that occurs in karting, but to those with their heads stuck in the sand, do remember not to twist too sharply when you come to realise what the truth is!
