It's a difficult scenario on both sides......
On the Saturday (wet) we were just one of many who kept their wets over from PFi..BIG mistake...they were awful, AGAIN, which then made driving in the current conditions very difficult at best, tricky at least....following Junior driver 77 into the bottom (Oblivion) corner as we had been doing for the 2 previous laps without problem, a "slower" driver in front of 77 caused both 77 and my driver to slow QUICKLY....77 tyres were new for the meeting and excellent...my lads were not and were pathetic....my lad "nudged" 77 and went by BUT slowed and let 77 pass back....later in the race my lad re-passed 77.
Back in Parc Ferme we were called to the COC and though my lad held his hands up, appologised profusely AND the guardians AND driver 77 said THEMSELVES that it was NOT MEANT and had let him re-pass etc....
The CO then appologised and said he HAD to give back a one place penalty AND unfortunately HIS HANDS were tied by the MSA and HAD to hand out 3 points and went on to say that he himself was almost at throwing the towel in with the MSA ? !!!! The driver and guardian of 77 argued on OUR behalf saying that was absolutely NOT neccessary !!!
So I'm afraid that whilst there were many incidents that DID require punishment....there were others that needed a common sense, mature and understanding approach....
My lad and MANY others race EVERY weekend....
If points are going to be dished out so easily then surely the 12 point maximum should be further increased ? Failing that what a great way to further decrease our karting grids thus causing a knock on effect throughout the karting world/business !
This is not a moan, an observation from an experienced parent within our sport.
