I would fully agree with that....although if my message is read as its written i do state "tight to the sprocket" Now if you read that as tight on the sprocket then yes it would probably crush it, but ive been changing mine for 3 years and never damaged one yet. Maybe its because im the wrong side of 40yrs most of which has been in engineering and im not a stranger to working out problems with what i have to hand, instead of buying overpriced tools each time!! SO..... Put the old chain around the sprocket and put the old chain in the vice. Put as much of the old chain in the vice so that the sprocket is only trapped by the chain alone but so that it very close to the edge of the vice and held by a now tightly held chain....and undo accordingly....simples....
