yeh its an interesting point recognition.....i get the feeling that in karting the general feeling towards marshals is that they are a nuicence, someone who blames you for a crash, black flags you or doesnt help you much...in circuit racing, on the whole its different, especially in club racing, its almost like a big family, a lot of the drivers know marshals, wave to you at the end of the race etc. ok there are some bad eggs....usually stuck up little A*holes that have had it easy cos daddies paid for everything their whole life, who are stuck and throw their dummies out after putting it in the tyres for the 10th time that weekend.
a lot is made of marshals these days in terms of praising them, the whole 'heros' thing and without them there wouldnt be motorsport to me goes a bit over the top, for me going marshalling is just a nice weekend out with a bunch of guys, i dont need, or want recognition when im marshalling, im just there because i love the sport and want to give something back. having said that....when the treats do come along like a free bbq from the caterham racers, a free holiday to dubai to marhsal at the f1 gp or free trackdays etc i aint gona complain about it!!!!
