Oh for CHRIST SAKE, paul..... you simply do NOT understand the meaning of the word: Acronym.... You can look-upo the meaning for yourself, I think you'll find very LITTLE agreement between dictionaries on the word!
I'll explain it to you via examples!
The Government body called the National Institute for Clinical Health and Excellence uses the ACRONYM of "NICE"...... just check the web site, you'll see them use the word NICE throughout! It's even in the URL!
http://www.nice.org.uk/
An acronym does NOT have to use ALL the letters, nor does it need to CONTAIN all the letters, the acronym is the PRONOUNCABLE part, not the initials!
There are LOADS of examples like this.... 'Neddy' (National Economic Development Council), Interpol, Gestapo, COBOL, BASIC, Modem, ...... and so on. You do NOT need to have ALL the letters there nor do you need to USE all the letters within the word. Damn it, even the 'FIRST' acronym: 'Fish' is a reference to Christ that has NONE of the 'correct' letters. Thus, pronunciation of SWRD as 'Sword' would make it a PERFECTLY acceptable Acronysm!
The problem is that: Acronym is a NEW word dated to the 20th Century (Websters claim 1943 as the first usage of the word..... but I cannot PROVE that!). Thus, it has NOT 'solidified' in our language as yet..... until them, it is the HEIGHT of pedantry to claim RIGID meanings for the word. No wonder that's what you are trying to do!
You really SHOULD learn to RESEARCH the meaning of the things you claim to understand. You make yourself a LAUGHING STOCK when you make such DAFT claims!!
I am out of this unless you say something else BLATANTLY stupid!.....Oh god.... this will go on forever, then!
