We have discussed this before. Be VERY aware that there is (curently) NO SUPPORT from the MSA for using these things at ALL in karting!
Nobody has shown sufficient evidence that they help in karting to make the MSA support the use of them yet.
A few people saying 'my lad wore one, had a shunt and is fine' is NO BETTER proof than all the other (vastly larger number of) dads who could say: 'My lad never wore ANY sort of brace and HE had a shunt and was fine'.
Currently, there is also no PROOF to say that neck braces of ANY karting type are NOT more likely to CAUSE an injury to the wearer! Please note EXACTLY what I said there, I am NOT saying there is ANY 'proof' to show they are dangerous, there just is no 'official' proof (i.e., recognised by the MSA) that says they do NOT cause injury!
Many people will trot out the old argument that they are used in Formula 1 and other car formulae...... BUT..... all of THOSE types work by using the SEAT BELTS to 'carry the load'. We don't have seat belts and thus karting neck braces do NOT work in the same way as those used in Cars. Thus, simply BECAUSE the work in cars C*A*N*N*O*T be used as proof that they work in karts!
I do know that they have been shown to help in SOME motorcycle racing...... but not ALL...... and we are NOT motorcycles!
