Ian, In answer to your quesions, i'm not tubby *cry*, just big boned (used to be a rubgy player) lol. My balls are pretty much touching the steering column, I have a lay down seat (f1 seat). I honestly cant rotate the seat any further are my chin is already on my chest to the point that I cant see my toes (cue the fat jokes). Yes it does hurt in the neck area, sometimes I do find my head flopping about like a rag doll at the end of a final if I have been having good battles all day but I darent try to build up in that area due to a little...ahem....excess in other areas (at least thats what my wife tells me when she wants something) ;)
But back to the point... no as far as absolute grip is concerned then generally the more the better but I do believe that there is a limit to the amount of useful grip you can have before it starts becoming detrimental to lap times as you wont be able to take corners as fast as if you get a little bit of a drift on.
