Look...... you need to THINK about what Flat-Top wheels are FOR.....
1) Rules have limited the HEIGHT that a kart can be. 2) Drivers sit slightly further forward than they use to when the height rules were made, causing the steering column to be raised more 3) Higher-Grip tyres (since the rules were made) have increased the effort required to turn the steering, especially on QUICK karts. 4) That 'steering-weight' can be reduced by having a larger-diameter steering wheel...... BUT...... 5) ..... a larger diameter steering wheel raises the highest point of the wheel ABOVE the legal maximum.... the way to solve THAT was to cut-off the top of the wheel!
So, if your lad is finding the steering too heavy over a long race and you CANNOT fit such a wheel without breaching the height rules, then a 'flat-top' might be a good idea. If that's NOT why you want a flat-top, then you are a FASHION-VICTIM!
It's STILL your choice to spend your money how you see fit....
