People on here, in society, and throughout history obviously get something out of medals and trophies that I just don't get. The posts on here seem to be relevant only because we do have trophies. It seems to me that people are chasing trophies as a symbol of achievement. Most of the posts have a common theme of how people are pleased or proud of something they have done.
As an example, lbsf1 says his (her?) best trophy was in a novice race. He explains why it was an achievement and ends with:- 'That trophy felt like I had actually achived something.'
Why does he need a trophy to make him 'feel' like he had achieved something, when he had 'actually' achieved something?
If we didn't give out trophies would he, or anyone else, think it was any less of an achievement?
