ive been through exactly your situation about 5 years ago. the money and time spent on karting was begining to drive a wedge between me and my wife (i was 44 so a lot older) i had started karting when i stopped racing gliders as that had became a money pit i couldnt compete with on my salary, unfortunatly being a compulsive competitive person karting spenditure also outstripped my bank balance and when i had a hard look at finances it was time to give up. i reached an agreement with my better half to marshal at kart meetings instead to put something back into the sport that had given me so much fun over the years. I'm now coming to the end of a Clerk of Course training and hopefully be a fully trained clerk within the next few months.
hopefully i will enjoy this side of motorsport as much as competing without it costing the earth.
the sport needs ex drivers to step up to clerks and scrutineers as the next generation of officials
