3rd year on year visit for me to the Ricoh and got to say its time for a venue change - it just looks lost in that arena and there is no buzz to it.
Biggest frustration for me has to be the trade stands, forgive me if I am wrong on this but surely at these sort of events you expect to be able to walk out with what you have bought..? why do I have to place the order there for it to be sent on afterwards - Ive never come across this concept at shows before. Obviously I don't expect the stands to stock every item going but surely bringing along the smaller bits they are likely to sell in volume is worth a punt.?
The kartboot was the best one so far though, maybe that reflected the time I visited but it was heaving when I turned up to the point I had to wait to be let in by the arena "staff" - bargains were there to be had, you have to haggle and stand your ground - perhaps us brits are not too good on that but when you have spent time in Chinese markets it comes a little easier!!
Personally I think kartboot is more of the future for this event rather than the trade stands or perhaps re-phrase that to "exhibitors" as that was really what the big stands were.
Also I like the idea of AC1962 - hold it at a track where you can try the karts, Kartboot outside, marques for the traders, engine clinics etc - a weekend in June/July when there are the least number of club/national races on.
Food for thought
