I suppose that questions of this nature will always evoke some strong opinions, but let me be clear about my intentions here.
I am in no way suggesting that there is any blame to be apportioned to the drivers, be it the fast driver or the slow driver. Indeed, the slow driver is just as much a victim as the fast driver. My question is specifically about the applicability of our safety procedures. Every driver is a slow driver at some point in their career, and being a slower driver is entirely blameless. I also accept the point about the responsibility of the faster drivers to see and avoid; afterall, it could be someone with a mechanical failure, or recovering from a mistake, etc. My question is really about the requirement of the ARKS test to be fast enough to compete safely, and its correct application. There are many aspects of driving that cannot easily be controlled, but ensuring that novice drivers are fast enough to compete safely is one of them, I would have thought?
