So in effect the engine had been set to fiche. I imagine by doing so a performance improvement/equalisation was achieved without the need to buy multiple parts, otherwise why bother? Which begs the question why Rotax can't produce close enough tolerences in the first place. Because if they did so then parts selection etc. would become redundent. Which is probably the point because then they would then sell many less engines. All comes down to commercial interest again.
Effectively equal engines is not in the interest of the karting business, that's the bottom line.
I don't know the full story, but maybe this tuner should be congratulated, rather than condemned, for trying to give all his customers equal equipment, without spending a fortune on parts selection.
