Difficult to add to richydehav's reply (simple unbiased advice) only to say I would stick to well known and commonly used chassis. A quick look through Karting Magazines or a few vistis to some tracks will show you which ones are most common to each class. This will allow easier access to helpful advice in your early days regarding setup, and spares.
Don't rush into buying a chassis or engine too quickly. It's the winter season, so you'll probably not be racing until maybe Feb next year. Keep an eye on the marketplace on hear and be very careful buying from ebay. There are good deals to be had on there, but also many bad ones.
If you can visit some tracks this month you may well find karts for sale, much better to deal face to face, and you should be able to talk someone into letting you test before you buy.
