I've heard this before, but as someone who has done both let's be clear......
Anyone that thinks racing cars can be done on a karting budget is deluding themselves..... Even when my son won a brdc scholarship to race cars and we got the entry fees and car for free.... the costs were still massively higher than karting.
Track fees for a practice day alone can run into hundreds compared to 40-50 at a kart track. If you have a team having to transport the car and mechanic (Lets face it.... being a mechanic for your son racing a kart is one thing.... how many really know how to mechanic a car.... thats a different animal) then the costs really start racking up.
Car racing is NOT cheaper than karting. If you run in a major kart team its expensive, but then you will no doubt be running in a team racing a car if you do, and it WILL be more costly. If you run a kart as dad and lad, running a car as dad and lad WILL be more costly..... these are the facts, and any attempt to say that car racing can be done on a karting budget is an absolute nonsense.
One other thing.... Karting features a LOT of track time over a weekend. Car racing does NOT. one race at 10.30am followed by the second one at 4.30pm.... that was our weekend at Snetterton.....lots of boring sitting around time.
Dont be conned into thinking car racing is cheaper.... it just isnt.
