I wouldn't question any decision to make neck protection mandatory either, however, the MSA would also have to look at the way neck protection marries with head protection.
I used the AGV MQ lid, which had a funny shaped chin section. I tried four different neck braces, none of which fitted properly as they pushed the front of my lid up. Was I going to buy a new lid for the sake of a �30 neck brace was I hell! We even tried cutting a neck brace to shape it to fit, no luck.
Eventually I just settled for building my neck muscles up to a point where I look like I have no neck! Obviously not going to help an awful lot when it comes to accidents, but sure as hell reduced the tiredness problem.
While you've got the chance, make your decisions based on facts. However, I would start to investigate if your lid will marry up properly to a neck brace
