We have done both and love each for different reasons. We ran on our own at clubs for quite a few years: how lucky were we to spend weekends with our boy having fun. We mainly ran clubs as Dad and Lad and then did S1 last year with Coles (great fun team to be with, but we planned and saved to do it) Dad still spannered as he had learnt from running as dad and lad, but the learning curve was still steep. I do not believe we could have run S1 on our own. Being in the team was great fun and very social and we learnt loads as parents and spannering and the boy developed his driving. He was given confidence by the older experienced drivers and team mechanics and we believe was great value. I guess it depends if you count 'value' as trophies or the whole package. As the boy is a teenager and past our level of 'help' we decided that he needs someone other than parents around him- saves on the arguements. We will still run with the Coles team for some big meets (cant do S1 this year- mainly because of exams) but are doing Pf club with a new little team, keeping costs down. Great atmosphere with several drivers only doing specific club meets.
If it isnt fun..whats the point. Itpo is right...enjoy the hobby. We have seen drivers go into some big teams and because of the money been spent by parents the pressure on the kid is huge and they dont smile...What is the point?
