I'm trying to get my head around the camber and castor angles and checking the chassis for twist / bend. This is what I understand:
Check for twist - To check the chassis for twist you measure the top of the kingpin bolt to the rear axle on both sides of the kart. If these measurements aren't the same then the chassis is twisted.
Check for bend - Romove the seat, petrol tank, engine and wheels. Place a straight edge across the top of the kingpins. Stand back from the kart and look at the straight edge and the axle, move your view point up and down until a tiny gap appears between the two. Any bend will be easily visible as the gap will be larger at one side than the other.
Right so I've done these checks and it appears that the chassis has a twist of about 3mm. It also has a bend on the front yolks. What I don't understand is how do you know which one has the bend?
Common sense tells me it's the left front but how do I know that the right front is at the correct height? I can bend the left front down to the height of the right front and then they would both be level but how do I know that, that is the correct height to put them at?
Any help is much appreciated as my head is spinning at the moment : )
Chris.
