Brian,
I did a bit of shore testing of tyres at a race meeting last year at WL. I can't recall the specific numbers (and I was using the guage as a relative test rather than anything specific) and the readings for all Dunlop SL1 tyres (whether new or up to 3 meetings old) were as near as makes no difference the same.
The exception, and the reason for the test in the first place, was we had a very bad handling kart which nothing set up wise could fix. I also knew that the chassis was otherwise fine. I borrowed the shore meter initially to test and compare with our fellow competitors. What we found wasn't that there was a massive difference between each kart but actually between our front and rears. Everyone else's were nearly the same whilst ours were 10 points greater between the front and back.
For the next heat we used a really old set of tyres and the handling problem went away.
I know this isn't quite on topic but get back to me if you want anything further from my findings.
Graeme
