Some sad people about. the only thing you can do is take it as a compliment - they do not sabotage drivers who are not better than themselves.
the worst one we had was at the Easykart World Finals in italy wgere someone went into the team awning, took off James's carb (after he was in the top three in timed qualifying) and replaced it with one with no diaghram and full of muck - looked as if someone had emptied an electric razor (after shaving) into the carb. A cadet who was going well had their carb jet screwed in so tight it cracked the carb body but luckily they noticed and could change it (but at a cost).
All done just in time for the start of the heats.
Apart from messing with the carb we have heard of people trying to drop muck/small stones into the air box, sugar in the fuel tank and so on.

It is not just in karting that this happens. Some years ago there was a report of a woman who was convicted after giving ponies sugar cubes at gymkana events in the Channel Islands. The sugar cubes had sedatuves in them and this was with youngsters taking their ponies over jumps - very dangerous.
