The idea that the IAME cadet engine would bring equality is just nonsense. If running time makes them quicker then it's enevitable that second hand motors will be worth more than a new one.
Let's say they need 30 hours to really loosen up and a couple of new pistons in between then what's that going to cost you in terms of time and money. Typically on a practice day you will get 1 hour running. Times that by £100/day running cost = £3000 + £500 for 2 pistons/rebuilds = £3500. If you run with a team then add another £6,000.
I promise you, you will hear of IAMES with pedigree chamnging hands for £10,000 very soon.
That's why I believe choosing another Italian two stroke as our premier cadet engine was bonkers from a value for money and equality point of view.
Italian two stoke kart engine's should only be used for the very elite classes where money is no object. Apart from the starter the IAME is no different to the Komet engine I first raced as a junior in 1975 and they called this progress over the Comer!
My point is simple. Italian manufacturers business model means they are on a a journey to oblivian so why can't the cadet engine market be opened up so that the Rotax Mini Max is also an option.
