Hootsman..."So tell me again what are these new classes going to do to make karting better than it is now"
I can only speak of KGP, as X30 is not out yet, what KGP brings is the ability for the customer to buy an engine "off the self" have it tuned by whoever he chooses, go and race it, and be VERY competitive..(subject to the drivers ability of course), and be competitive at any level not just club level...you can buy a KGP motor and it will be as fast as the front runners in the S1....this is nearly impossible in Rotax, you will need to be very, very, lucky to get a Rotax motor, off the self, have it prepared by a sealing agent, and it will be as fast as the front runners in S1...more or less impossible.
We have raced in many classes...Comer Cadet, Jnr Jkm, JICA (kf3), ICA (kf2), FA (KF1) KF2, Snr Rotax, and KGP, all at the highest level....We have competed in 4 KGP races this season, and have been on the podium in 3 of them...this is after a layoff of 6 years from racing...we have also done ZERO testing, apart from the race weekends, not even 1 lap! .... We have raced 4 different motors, and they are all very, very close in performance, about 0.5 tenth between them.......try doing that in Rotax!
That,s the main difference, for me, between Rotax and KGP....being able to get VERY competitive kit "off the self"...no monster motors, no special barrels, no special carbs, no special exhausts,... just go a buy it, or hire it and know you have the same kit as everybody else on the grid
