I agree totally with Stec. My 8 year old only drove a Honda a couple of times last year before moving up from Bambino. He also tested an IAME and much preffered it so we went down that route and have been racing all year. He's doing okay for his first year, steady progress.
He wanted to go to Buckmore last weekend and see Johnny Herbert but there was no IAME grid so we decided to enter the Honda Cadet O plate for a bit of fun. We hired a Project One kart and standard non SP T1 engine for the weekend and entered the clubman class. We wasn't really expecting much but as soon as he drove it he shown very good pace.
He qualified 23rd out of 42 but he was 2nd in the clubman class and beat plenty of full cadets with SP and T2 engines! As Stec said I believe driving an IAME has made him a much better driver and although tempting were not moving to Honda.
Also I know someone who goes to Italy a lot and his son races their equivalent of Cadet out there. They took their Italian spec IAME Gazzelle to Bayford Meadows for a practice. It had a different carb, no restrictor and was TAG. He was that fast he wasn't allowed out with our Cadets and they put him out the Minimax and he was still faster than some of them! Just goes to show what the engine is capable of!
