Simon, if I have implied that drivers hold the steering in one position, that would be wrong. What I meant is that (in my opinion) the optimum would be to NOT move the wheel AT ALL once turn in has occurred. I have only seen a few who can do it: Terry Fullerton being one of them. The rest need to adjust to keep the kart on the right trajectory. It always seemed to me to be fairly easy to spot the 'QUICK' guys as they moved the wheel the least.
I saw Ayrton once in kart and he drove like no one else I have ever seen. He even choked at the START of the straight which baffled all of us!
Bercy is a good example and well worth watching: however they were all WELL past their karting best by then and the tyres were fairly un-sticky.
