Mark,
The tool has already created a further gap between the t1 and t2 rendering all current t1 valueless. The T2, therefore has to be the engine of choice for anyone racing.
There is scope within the regulations for this to be addressed and can be done so relatively simply but todate (and we are now into year 2) nothing has been done to close this gap and prolong the useful racing life of the T1. For what is supposed to be a budget class this is a complete travesty.
I had the same experience with SP T1s with the timing tool (in fat one had to be pulled back to make it legal), however, all the T2s that I have worked on (including the SPs) all gained a significant advance (the SPs less than the standard motors for sure). The concept of this is actually quite good, however, the reality is somewhat different in application and until this gets to an MSA court and a precedent set the rules remain open to interpretation.
