..... a good example of the 'rear-end retaliation' was with the rather famous Tim Harvey at Rye House. In an early race of his, he punted me off in Heat 1. The final came around and I knew he was there...... on contact, I simply moved to one side..... and over he went! One lesson taught and learned!
I kept my helmet on while walking from the scrutineer's bay... as he had substantial friends with him and he was NOT a happy man....... tough!
Shame my little lesson didn't stay with him much when he got into Touring Cars! However, he never did it to me again! In those days, quick people respected each other (not Oli Goldstein, of course) and that made the racing more fun and safer.
We all learned in the same way Tim did! You tried something, it failed, you didn't do it again..... unless you were stupid!
The trouble is now that the lead driver has NO means (or very few) of balancing the odds!
