"My advice is kit your lad out properly, it's not worth trying to save the odd kilo by skimping on safety gear!".......I couldn't agree more.....12 weeks ago, when testing at a well known circuit, my 8 year old son rolled his honda-cadet kart and broke his right upper arm into 4 pieces, very close to the shoulder, and needed an operation to re-set it with 2 days in hospital, fortunatley no pins or meccano was required......the kart needed a new axle and nassau panel, and took a general mullering.....his helmet got well and truly mashed into the tarmac with very significant force and huge couge marks in the helmet, fortunatley he landed upright, he was wearing a Leatt neck brace and a decent rib protector with shoulder protection......I shudder when I think what would have happened if he was not wearing the Leatt neck brace, so I was almost relieved it was only a broken arm, we are back out this sunday for the first time after 8 weeks of physiotherapy to re-build his muscle strength......I'm sure some of you smart alecs are about to say "well those pesky neck braces actually cause more damage, and they are safer without it"....please dont bother, its just not a risk I'm willing to take..... first imagine going home and explaining a worse situation to your wife.
