Well, I presume we've all seen the flex that a kart goes through under a slow motion video.
This flexing would be using the axle as a form of torsion bar if it's bearings weren't free to move within the cassettes, like putting the rear bar in.
If you leave the cassettes loose enough to allow the bearings to move within them, rather than tightening them up, it allows the axle to settle back without tension when the kart is on a straight and is not acting like a variable torsion bar.
Set the whole lot up first with the mallet and tap and spin method.
I've always set axles up that way and I noticed a certain ex Multiple British champ uses the same method as me.
Not sure if that works for TKM chassis but they were based on Roman chariots.
Could be complete bs but that's karting for you.
