Hi Squipper
We all started somewhere, some of us, a very long time ago.
We usually recommend the following:-
1) Tell us where you are 2) we'll recommend a track (or two ) to visit on a 'race' day and we'll give you the dates of the next meetings at those tracks 3) You go along to watch and see if competitive karting is for you two.
Be aware: karting is more addictive than 'coke' (so I am told....) and can cost as much...... however, there are ways to keep the costs down.
4) Try to keep your (and your lad's ) aspirations reasonable: there are 10s of thousands who think they will use karting as a step on the way to become Lewis Hamilton. Obviously, he did but, not quite so obviously, 10s of thousands who have tried to do this don't make it.
5) For the sensible, karting is simply fantastic. Spending the formative years of your lad while striving to get a shared result is simply a fantastic way to bind you.
6) Your lad will learn 'car control' to a simply fantastic level. It's a training that can't be gained any other way then racing. So long as he stays sensible, it is simply the best training he can get.
Anyway, start with where and when. Some people here (going to that race you can attend) may offer to meet you and explain the 'game' to you, especially if your lad is a similar age to their own.
As others have said BUY NOTHING YET (except teas and coffees for those who help you). It's extremely easy to buy the wrong kart at this stage!
